My favourite season started again. - The time, when the light is getting warmer, the trees more colourful and the air chillier. It’s the time of tea, cosy evenings and Apple Pie. Since I’ve been thinking, Apple Pie was one of my absolute favourite cakes. When I could decide between Chocolate Cake and Apple Pie, I always decided on the Pie. Today I want to show you an Apple Pie recipe which is actually pretty traditional; however, I added one ingredient which definitely refined it!
It’s a very simple recipe and I will explain it to you again step by step. The decoration requires a little patience and creativity. But I am sure you will do great!
What you need for this Apple Pie (1 Pie or 6 little forms):
3 tbs. Brown Sugar
1 tsp. Salt
2 Pinches of Cinnamon
Peel of half Orange (organic)
175g Soft unsalted Butter
6 tbs. Cold Water
3 Big Apples (my favourites are Elstar)
½ tsp. Cinnamon
Juice of a half Lemon
100g Brown Sugar
3 tbs. ground almonds
1. For the dough:
Mix all the dry ingredients (flour, sugar, salt, cinnamon). Add the peel of the Orange and the water. In the end you put in the soft butter and mix it (I would recommend you to use your hands).
Form 2 balls and wrap both in cling film separately. Put them in the fridge for the time you prepare the apples.
2. For the apple mixture:
Peel and core the apples. Chop them in little cubes as you see it on the picture on the right. Put them in a bowl and add the other ingredients for the apple mixture. Mix everything.
3. Take the dough out of the fridge. Unwrap the dough, spread a little bit of flour on the table and roll the dough until it is half centimeter thick. Cut a circle which is bigger than your baking form.
4. Put the dough into the baking form. If you see that there is a bit of air between the dough and the form on the bottom, take a fork and prick into it, just like I did.
5. Fill in the apples mixture. Now comes the creative part. You can use many different tools that can help you to create beautiful patterns on your cake.

6. Bake the little cakes for about 25 minutes at 190°C. If you made a cake, it will take about 80 minutes. Afterwards take them out and let them cool down.
